Upcoming Clinic
CHARMED STABLES will be hosting a clinic on Saturday, May 5, 2012, beginning at 9am and ending at 5pm, with Clinitian, Jennifer Derksen.
JENNIFER DERKSEN, will be teaching how to work on position and correct aids to communicate with your horse. Her clinic will be based on Mary Wanless’ method, focusing on rider bio-mechanics.
Mary Wanless is from the U.K. and is a riding coach and author of several books (“Ride With Your Mind”). Her instructional approach , to quote from her book: “shows any rider how to organize her mind and body in the same way as the riders we call %talented. This enables each person to learn the same feels and to achieve the same results. The techniques used are very streamlined. By increasing the rider’s body awareness and using images which help her understand both what to do and how to do it, incredible improvements can be obtained in a very short time, defying traditional expectations.”
Jennifer is a student of Mary’s and is working towards her certification. She was accepted as a working student for Mary for two months in the U.K. in 2004. And has completed 3 Teachers Training clinics with Mary here in Canada in 2008, 2009 and 2010. This May, Jennifer will attend her 4th teacher’s training with Mary at Dancing Horse Farm in Dayton, Ohio, where she will once again have the opportunity to learn Mary’s techniques and teach students under her direct supervision. Jennifer also continues to participate in numerous riding clinics with Mary to improve her own riding. She has coached students of all ages and experienced first hand the incredible results attained when a rider gains an awareness of how their body can positively influence their horse. If you are coming from Kingston, you may take either Hwy 2 (Princess St.) or Taylor Kidd Blvd. westbound to Camden East Road (County Road #4) and turn right (northbound). Or you may take Hwy 401 westbound to Camden East exit and go north. Once on County Rd. #4 (Camden East Rd.) continue north through Camden East (McCormick’s gas and store), and continue next through Centreville (yellow flashing light), take your next right onto Brown Road, and stay to the right at the “Y” intersection on the gravel road and on to the farm.
If you are coming from Kingston taking Gardiners Road, which turns into Hwy #38, continue northbound through Harrowsmith. Go past the Verona, Foodland grocery store and look for the sign for Enterprise and Bellrock Road. Turn left onto the Bellrock Road, which eventually is called County Road #14. Continue on until you go through Enterprise. When you come to the right hand bend in the road with the yellow and black arrow signs, you will see the sign for Brown Road, turn left and continue on to the barn which will be on your left before the sharp right turn in the road. If you pass the yellow and black signs you have gone too far.
